10/17/10 – On Sunday, October 17th, The Radford Highlanders traveled down to South Carolina to play the Clemson Tigers in an imperative division match up. The winner of this game would have a guaranteed spot in the SCCFA championship game against South Carolina. In a must-win situation, both teams went into this game with great intensity.
In the first quarter, Clemson drew first blood by recovering a fumble on the 15, the scoring on the first play with a pass to the end-zone. This would have put Clemson up by 7 but their extra point attempt was blocked by defensive end Mike Massey. With only 6 points on the score board, Clemson would never see the end-zone again. On the next series, Radford moved the ball 70 yards for their first score of the game which came from a 20 yard pass to wide receiver John Webb. In the second quarter, Radford would score on a five yard run by sophomore Shaquan Ball. The extra point would be missed which left Radford up 13 to 6 going into half-time.
At the start of the second half, Radford was set to kick off but an accidental onside kick from John Webb took both teams by surprise but would result in a Radford recovery. Radford’s quarterback Sean Monahan would then find receiver John Webb again for a 30 yard pass for the end-zone. With a successful extra point, Radford was up 20 to 6. Neither teams would score after the third quarter, giving Radford a much needed Victory and secured their spot in the Magus Cup against South Carolina.
